The Commons at Calabasas is an open-air luxury shopping mall and a popular local stomping ground. Developed by famed Caruso, the plaza is an exquisite display of Mediterranean architecture and elaborate fountains tied together by boutique shops and restaurants.
 
Calabasas earned its namesake from the Spanish word “calabaza,” which means “pumpkin.” To this day, the annual Calabasas Pumpkin Festival draws in crowds to view an incredible Halloween display. The rich historical roots have attracted the interest of people from all around the world.
 
In 1931, the art deco artist colony Park Moderne (the Bird Streets), was founded by William Lingenbrink and constructed by German architects Jock Peters and R.M. Schindler. This is one of the oldest neighborhoods in the area. Although the former art cottages are no longer standing along the famous bird streets, the remnants of an art deco fountain and wrought iron gates continue to tell the story.
 
Preserving the historic character of the community has always been a long-term goal. Old Town Calabasas and the Leonis Adobe are popular attractions that preserved the Old West atmosphere. Present-day Old Town Calabasas has preserved much of the historic wooden-framed structures, saloon buildings, and charm. Mixed with its historical roots, the town now hosts an array of popular restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques, and farmers markets.
